In collaboration with friends in Spain, USA, Taiwan, and Australia we have characterized the role of MtYSL7 in symbiotic nitrogen fixation. This is a peptide transporter that when mutated affects plant growth, metal accumulation, and disregulates plant iron homeostasis, what leads to reduced nitrogen fixation rates. Our evidence indicates that MtYSL7 might be involved in transporting a yet-to-be determined peptide linked to iron homeostasis signalling. You can find the publication here.
